Picture the unique setting of Ketner's home, with its stunning African art collection on display and the views of the lush patio, serving as the perfect backdrop for our gathering. The atmosphere was not just cozy and inviting, but it also radiated warmth and inclusivity, with 27 neighbors coming together to create a friendly environment.
Neighbors shared about summer travels, how they beat the heat, and navy nautical terms from the 1800s that made their way into today's vocabulary. Kerry passionately led the book review. Here are a few terms the author David Grann discusses in his book. " Three Sheets to the Wind" describes inebriation, which comes from the ship's deck when sheets or ropes are set loose and bounced around out of control. And if you've ever toed the line — stuck to a rule — you might be interested to know that the phrase comes from a literal line on ships. "They would line up, often, the young boys on a ship, and they had to keep their toes right on the seam," Grann said. "So toe the line came from there."
The BBQ Delights: The mouthwatering BBQ spread was a feast for the senses, savored by all. The aroma of the smoked meat and the perfectly prepared side dishes tasted irresistible, leaving everyone eagerly anticipating the next gathering.
